Deadline for our themed summer issue--AudioVisual--is June 15th, 2017

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please withdraw accepted pieces promptly from consideration. 

We will try to respond to your submission in less than 30 days. After 60 days query to editor [at] upthestaircase [dot] org.

Please submit only once per quarter.

We do not accept previously published poetry for regular issues, but previously published artwork is okay.

Up the Staircase Quarterly obtains first serial publishing rights. After a piece runs, all rights revert back to the author.

Unfortunately, we cannot currently pay writers for the work we accept.

We are seeking cover art submissions for our 2017 issues.

Cover art can be of any genre but must contain a staircase in the work.

Submit up to 10 .jpg attachments.


We are seeking themed poetry submissions for our Summer 2017 issue.

Submissions for this issue can be previously published. Please note in your cover letter where the work previously appeared.

Submit up to 3 poems in video or audio formats.
We are especially seeking poetry from persons with disabilities, writers of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and other marginalized voices. For this issue we are looking for protest/resist poems, poems on immigration, race, gender, and responses to current events.

If you would like to submit via a YouTube video, place up to three links to your work in the cover letter box.

If your work is accepted, you will also be asked to provide text of your work.
